As a company based in the Lavanttal valley, we are especially pleased to have won the contract from Rhomberg Sersa Rail Holding for the electrical fit-out of the Koralm Tunnel, a once-in-a-lifetime project for the region and far beyond. 600 distribution cabinets designed and built by PMS will ensure that the air conditioning, ventilation, lighting and fire alarm systems in the world’s sixth-longest rail tunnel operate smoothly.
The Koralm Tunnel is 33 kilometres long and runs underneath the Koralpe mountain range at a depth of up to 1,200 metres, connecting Deutschlandsberg in Styria with the Lavanttal valley in Carinthia. It consist of two bores, which are being constructed in line with the latest technical and aerodynamic requirements. Built to a diameter of 10 metres, they run parallel between 20 and 50 metres apart from each other and have connecting cross passages every 500 metres, which serve as escape routes and provide space for railway equipment. There is also an emergency station around 900 metres in length in the centre of the tunnel.
“We are absolutely delighted that this order has been won by a company based in the region, and that we can use our expertise to help deliver this once-in-a-lifetime project”, said Grünwald.
