It’s official – starting in the 2019/20 winter semester, students in the Lavanttal region will have the opportunity to take classes in a combined work and study “Systems Engineering” course from the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences at the PMS Technology Centre in St. Stefan. The “Systems Engineering Extended” course offers all-round basic technical training with subsequent specialisation in electronics or mechatronics.
“Extended” means some classes will take place at the university campus in Villach, some will take place at the PMS Lavanttal Technology Centre, and some will be livestreamed from Villach. This model makes studying considerably easier for students from the Lavanttal, who now no longer need to travel to Villach for all their classes.
“Our aim is for the PMS Technology Centre to be a flagship project for the Lavanttal valley. PMS operates across Europe, and we need highly qualified staff – without them, we won’t be able to respond to the challenges of the future”, said PMS Managing Directors Alfred Krobath and Franz Grünwald. To actively shape the future and to convince the “brightest minds” to stay in the region, they have commissioned the renovation of the current production hall, which will begin operation at the end of August, and the provision of fully equipped classrooms and laboratories for research and development.
Grants for students
The Lavanttal authorities offer grants of 100 euros to beginner students as a contribution to their tuition fees for each of the first two semesters, meaning students start off with 200 euros for their first year of study.
